Abstract

This curricular artifact presents a revision of one district’s mythology unit plan. My unit asks students to view myths, folktales, fables, etc. through the lenses of drama-related standards and performance. Instructional design, the importance of representation, and choice as a motivating factor for students were the three foci of the revision. Chapter 1 discusses sources which shaped my unit design and lesson planning process. Chapter 2 presents an itemized list of the unit’s revisions plus a variety of resources to illustrate the teaching of this unit. Ultimately, this curricular artifact serves as a model for embedding drama standards within a seventh grade English Language Arts mythology unit, and the method may be beneficial in other grade levels and courses.
